It is time to kick start this year’s spring builds with our exciting Kids Can Grow Day. On May 27, 2011, the Projects in Place crew will be holding a fun activity day with the children and parents of the YWCA Early Childhood Learning Centre, a daycare for 3-5 year olds in downtown Vancouver. Our objective is to transform the daycare into a healthier, safe, interactive environment. We have planned a few different activities to get the kids involved with this improvement. An outdoor planting session will give the kids a chance to dig in and get dirty while learning about foods that come from the garden. Several planters will be filled with an assortment of fruit and vegatable plants. Then, everyone will decorate a pot and plant their own seed to take home and watch grow. The daycare has also asked us to improve their interior space, so we will be holding a mural workshop, tying in with a Farm theme to complete the circle of where our food comes from. We’re looking forward to seeing all of the kids’ ideas for decorating the walls. We don’t think there’s a better way to start off our spring season than by getting kids excited about growing. We will keep you updated as the planning continues and the Kids Can Grow Day gets closer.
