Did You Know That Large Sections of Hastings Street Don’t Have Trees?

Sad, but true!

But there is hope. We are working with the Strathcona Business Improvement Association’s to help make their Urban Tree Nursery a reality.

Tree planters will be installed on Hastings Street, in hopes to beautify the otherwise barren streetscape. The planters will feature a range of attractive native plants and will be run as a full fledged nursery maintained by people with employment barriers. As the trees grow, they will be harvested and then sold at a neighbourhood plant sale. The planters will then be filled with new plant material to allow the project to be an annual event.

Projects In Place, along with industrial designer, YarOn Stern have been working design the planters and develop the maintenance and planting protocol for the new employees to follow. Construction in early spring 2012.
