We did it despite the rain!

What happens over two days when hundreds of pounds of lumber, soil, and plants are combined with dozens of amazing volunteers? You get a wonderfully rehabilitated playground in the heart of downtown!

Thank you so much to our enthusiastic volunteers for coming out  on Sunday, March 2nd and Saturday March 8th for the Sapphire Playground Pre-Build and Build events!! The weather was against us, but we accomplished a great deal with our positive outlook and Vancouver raingear!

This past weekend, we built colorful planters, decks, bridges, and gardening tables. We also put blueberries, strawberries, clematis, rosemary, lavender, and many other plants into the ground.

The Sapphire build was a great experience for us all and we’re looking forward to our next Build event for Library Square in May! Stay Tuned for future blog posts with more information on that project and how you can sign up to volunteer to help rejuvenate the play spaces in the iconic Vancouver Public Library (VPL) main branch.

Here is a sneak peak of some pics from the day.  Special thanks to our photographer Brett Hitchins!

Many thanks to our incredible event sponsors:  Ausenco, Dick’s Lumber, Eco-Soil, Piroche Plants, Cedar Rim Nursery, Urban Fare, Waves Coffee, CBR Products/Broda Coatings.
