Our Mandate
Projects in Place is a volunteer-run non-profit society that brings construction professionals together with the general public to design and implement projects that benefit their community.
What We Do
We help people not just imagine, but build greener neighborhoods and stronger communities through design and build projects. We do this by coordinating volunteer builds which allow us to complete projects for far less than they would otherwise cost.
More specifically we provide the following:
- Project implementation, coordination and facilitation
- Design consultation
- Research
- Education
Our diverse members take our clients from vision to design to construction in an effort to provide a deeper understanding of the role design and construction can play in improving our daily lives.
We do this by coordinating volunteer builds which allow us to complete projects for far less than they would otherwise cost. This model has allowed the Projects in Place Society to complete a variety of community improvement projects including green roofs, living walls, playgrounds and urban farms.
Who We Are
Our members include Designers, Planners, Ecologists, Engineers, Tradespeople, Entrepreneurs and Concerned Citizens, many of whom are young professionals volunteering their time in order to gain specific knowledge in the application of sustainable technologies.

Policy + Research
Projects In Place is dedicated to researching and sharing the latest innovations, technologies and ideas, not only from our own work, but from friends, colleagues and other industry leaders. Over the next few months we will be continuing to add some exciting new articles and research findings. Please select the Research category for regular updates and feel free to post comments or even your own research.
Volunteer Opportunities
A key part of our mandate is sharing our knowledge and expertise with anyone who is
interested in green technology. Interested in learning how to apply green technologies to your home or business? Passionate about a project you think would benefit your neighbourhood? Or just interested in helping us design, build and maintain innovative green technologies?
We can help. Simply fill out our Volunteer Sign-Up_Form if you would like to volunteer with us and tell us your ideals and aspirations and we’ll do our best to match you to a project. You can also follow us on Twitter to be in the loop of the things we do.
