The Vancouver Society of Children’s Centres (VSOCC) and Projects in Place Society (PIPS) partnered a fourth time to redesign and rebuild the outdoor play space at the Bayshore Gardens Children's Centre, which helps make our downtown more family-friendly for its residents and provide much needed childcare services for working parents. The goal of the project was to provide more natural play environments, develop gardens for the children to grow food to be used in their daily meals, and implement a recycling and composting program.

Friday was our delivery day, where we unloaded supplies and set up for the weekend build. Saturday, was Build Day #1, where we built planters, decks, movable activity boxes and a number of other play features. Sunday was Build Day #2, where we continued Saturday’s projects, painting and planting to finish any last remaining items and making sure the children’s centre was ready for the kids on Monday morning. All of our great volunteers helped to make this playground revitalization a huge success as in the end we made many planters, activity tables, decks, and lollipops - we made the playground a more naturalized, fun place for the kids!

"Our experience with Projects in Place was amazing. Their design for our campus community garden reflected and enhanced our vision, and they helped us with every detail to bring that vision to life. Our garden has grown into a lush space of learning and community-building, and we couldn't have created it without Projects in Place."
