The Vancouver Society of Children’s Centres (VSOCC) and Projects in Place Society (PIPS) partnered a third time to redesign and build the outdoor play space at the Dorothy Lam Children's Centre. The goal of the project was to provide more natural environments; develop gardens for the children to grow food to be used in their daily meals; and implement a recycling and composting program.
The design focused on incorporating concepts of sustainability, food security and environmental conservation to help introduce children to these important concepts in a fun and interactive setting.
Our amazing volunteers were instrumental in realizing the playground design and worked hard all weekend cutting, sanding and painting wood; building planters, a sandbox, a stage deck, a bench, and interactive play stations; fixing a pirate ship climber; pushing wheelbarrows, hauling sand, planting a variety of new plants, and childminding cute little munchkins.
"Our experience with Projects in Place was amazing. Their design for our campus community garden reflected and enhanced our vision, and they helped us with every detail to bring that vision to life. Our garden has grown into a lush space of learning and community-building, and we couldn't have created it without Projects in Place."
