The Projects in Place crew planned and executed a fun activity day with the children and parents of the YWCA Early Childhood Learning Centre, a daycare for 3-5 year olds in downtown Vancouver. The objective was to transform the daycare into a healthier, safe, interactive environment as well as beautify the outdoor play area.
On Kid Can Grow Day, an outdoor planting session gave the kids a chance to dig in and get dirty while learning about foods that come from the garden. Planters were filled with an assortment of fruit and vegetable plants including tomatoes, strawberries, cucumbers. Prior to getting dirty, there was a short educational session about how plants grow and how they relate to food production.
The kids were delighted with the opportunity to dig and play in the dirt. Many parents also participated in the event and were eager to start planting their own garden at home. Throughout the summer, the children have been involved with the upkeep of the garden and in sharing of the crops.
Projects In Place also worked to bring more plants to the interior. These plants will purify the air in the daycare in order to provide better air quality for the kids with the objective to reduce allergies. The project started with a design phase followed by plant selection and the planting. Our expert team selected plants requiring a low maintenance and a good aestheticism.
"The organizers and crew of Projects in Place have the knowledge and dedication to make beautiful transformations to support healthy living. They will inspire you with their knowledge as to "why we should have green spaces" and the right plants for you."
