Bryce Gauthier, MLA, BCSLA Intern, LEED® AP Co-Founder
Bryce founded Projects In Place as a way for designers to share their time and expertise with members of the community as a way to make places better. He currently works as a designer for Sharp + Diamond Landscape Architecture Inc., a leader in the application of sustainable urban design strategies. He also teaches green roof technology for the Center for Architectural Ecology at BCIT.
Karen is dedicated to improving communities by involving them in the design process and working together through every phase. What she values most from each project is the challenge of incorporating exciting and fun concepts with well thought-out design. Often, “design” forgets reality, but too often, reality forgets about dreams. As an architect, Karen has been involved in the design and construction of a range of projects for clients with a strong community focus such as BC Housing, MPA, Atira, the YWCA and BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
Edwin Guerra is originally from Mexico City. He received his BS in Civil Engineering at Idaho State University. Edwin has a passion for green buildings and sustainable development which motivated him to join Projects in Place. He is also an active member of the UBC Emerging Green Builders and the Metro Vancouver Emerging Professionals group.
Kim McClymont’s background in human geography, interest in green roofs and love for travel have led her to a variety of opportunities. After two years of working for a green roof design company in Germany she returned and moved west, now making Vancouver home. In arriving here she quickly became connected with Projects in Place. Involvement in the diverse range of projects has provided her an opportunity for creative problem solving and unique connection to local community, industry and government. Kim works as a LEED coordinator for Cobalt Engineering.
Marc derives satisfaction from identifying “missed” value, a challenge that aligns perfectly with his pursuit of opportunities in environmentally sustainable business. A graduate of the University of Michigan with a MBA and a Master of Environmental Science, he now works for a major Asian conglomerate as a consultant advising its various divisions on how to profit from shrinking their and their customers’ environmental footprints. He hopes that his son will one day thank him for helping make the world a better place.

Nicolas received his Masters in Physiology from the University of Poitiers (France) in 2006. He then went on to pursue an Engineering Degree in Horticulture in 2008, with a speciality in Green Buildings, from the National Institute of Horticulture in Angers (France).
A specialisation in green buildings took root for Nicolas in 2007 in Angers and Paris with the completion of two projects involving leading, living-wall technology. Both projects focused on designing an innovative system, and realized the creation of a tool to assist in the selection of best suited plants and the identification of target markets for various types of living-walls.
In January of 2009 Nicolas accepted a position with BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment and has been fortunate to not only work on a large diversity of projects, but also to continue developing his own methodologies. Milestone projects have included assessing the evolution of seven sedum species growing on the BCIT Green Roof Research Facility (GRRF), studying green roof plant viability regarding different methods of planting and weeding frequencies, studying volunteer (weeds) successions on green roofs, and determining plant evolution on living walls.
It is in 2010 that Nicolas founded Urban Foliage Inc. Visit www.urbanfoliage.com for more information.
