Since the last time we’ve all met, we’ve been working on getting a few projects up and running. We are anticipating several builds this coming spring – the first being the Atira Community Garden at the Rice Block on 420 Hawkes Ave. (across the street from SOLEfood) Atira is a non-profit organization focusing on women in various communities.
It’s a small community garden for the residents of the Rice Block as well as to the community. We’ve helped them with the design and layout of the garden and they are ready to build next week MARCH 30 from 9-5. There will be a group of highschool students from Langley donating materials and volunteers – but PIP members and volunteers are more than welcome (and encouraged) to participate as well.
Attached is layout plan as well as Atira’s Event Poster.
“Atira Women’s Resource Society is a community-based organization that supports all women, and their children, who are experiencing the impact of violence committed against them and/or their children. Through education, advocacy and outreach, Atira is an active voice in the struggle to end violence against women and their children.”
If anyone is interested in volunteering, please email back to firstname.lastname@example.org we will co-ordinate with Atira.
If you have any questions, feel free to email or call Karen at 604.317.9683.
Thanks! And hope to see you at our upcoming builds this spring as well. Check our blog for more updated information. www.projectsinplace.wordpress.com
