Radha Green Roof

Location: Main and Union Street
Partners: Xeroflor Canada
Sponsors: Vancity, Real Estate Foundation of BC
Completion: September 2009

Radha is an education-based non-profit organization offering courses and workshops in yoga and personal development, as well as vegan cooking. Radha renovated its century-old building to reduce its carbon footprint, energy, and water use while improving the overall comfort of the building. Radha wanted their building to operate in line with their yoga values of taking responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Projects in Place assisted Radha with the design and installation of a green roof that transformed their rooftop into a living and breathing surface while contributing to the area’s emerging green economy. Ultra-light sedum mats from Xeroflor, which roll on the roof like carpet, were ideal for the building’s structural conditions.

The Build Event spanned over 2 days, and engaged approximately 100 people in the installation. From students to professionals to interested Vancouverites, everyone had the opportunity to climb onto the roof and participate - making it a great community event.

"Our experience with Projects in Place was amazing. Their design for our campus community garden reflected and enhanced our vision, and they helped us with every detail to bring that vision to life. Our garden has grown into a lush space of learning and community-building, and we couldn't have created it without Projects in Place."
